Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Washington agreed to a five-year deal with former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and they would be announcing the deal on Wednesday.
Rivera went 76-63-1 during his career with the Panthers and made it to Super Bowl 50, which they lost to the Denver Broncos.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Rivera is targeting former Jaguars and Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio as a possible defensive coordinator.
Washington is the first NFC East team to fill their head coaching vacancy this offseason. The Giants fired Pat Shurmur on Monday morning and is unknown whether Dallas is moving on from head coach Jason Garrett and his expired contract.
