
Former NFL player Terrell Roberts was visiting his grandmother in Richmond when he was shot and killed at her home on Wednesday afternoon.
Roberts suffered from a gunshot wound on the chest and stumbled into the backyard. The Richmond Police Department received a call about the incident at 4:10 p.m. and arrived at the scene shortly after.
Roberts attended El Cerrito High School before going on to play football at Oregon State University.
Roberts, was a defensive back for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2003-04.
“The medical team performed life-saving measures, but he passed away at the scene,” Sergeant Melgoza said.
The incident is under investigation and police are looking for the suspect, who Melgoza described as “a black male adult, 20 to 35 years old, bald with a short beard, approximately 250 pounds, wearing a black T-shirt.”
“It’s unclear the relationship between the suspect and the victim,” Melgoza added.
